Words/Phrases Not to Be Used by Me, Social Security and PA BDD Employees and Anyone
I am sure that the Social Security Administration and the Pennsylvania State Department of Labor Bureau of Disability Determination spend a lot of time on training and communication. So this is not a commentary on the employees as a whole many of whom probably never use these phrases. These phrases are self-explanatory as to why they should not be used. Then again for some people they are not. These are phrases I encounter on a regular basis and/or my clients tell me they hear. A note that these are from offices throughout the state.
"You have to understand."
"There is nothing we can do."
"I don't know what to tell you."
"That's not how it works."
"I don't make the rules."
"Go (or write to) (or call) your congressman."
"We don't have anyone here who speaks that language."
"Our X speaking employee is at lunch or not in today."
"You need to get your own interpreter."
"You can't appeal it. It's final."
"There's nobody you can talk to or complain to about it."
More to come . . .
